So-called Atmosphere and Ocean De-aliasing (AOD) products can reduce the aliasing effect of high-frequency atmospheric and ocean mass changes in GRACE/-FO gravity field products. However, these AOD products may be incomplete. Indeed, liquid and frozen cloud water during intense convective storms, which have thus far been overlooked in GRACE/-FO processing, can generate atmospheric mass changes within the detection range of GRACE-FO LRI measurements. These findings could be of particular interest for line-of-sight gravity and hydrology studies of extreme convective storms, of which some of the largest are catalogued here (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14974779). Concerning is the fact that the intensity and number of these events has increased significantly over the last two decades.
