Remote sensing of soil moisture is very complex. In the DETECT lecture Carsten Montzka will inform about the basic principles of passive microwave measurements and the physics behind radar observations. This leads to descriptions about soil moisture retrieval methods and the characteristics of most used soil moisture products, important to get a feeling for the data and for adequate interpretations when working with soil moisture data.
